It’s easy to fall head over heels for the natural beauty of Wales, with its stunning array of waterfalls being a particular highlight. Recently, a specific waterfall has been turning heads due to its sheer magnificence.

The area in Powys was recently showcased on TikTok by Dan, also known as the Welsh Hiker, who enthused about its striking allure. Guiding viewers through the Brecon Beacons, he exclaimed “you won’t believe this isn’t Bali”, offering a tantalising glimpse of the landscape. He revealed that it’s referred to as the “secret” waterfall, and it’s undeniably breathtaking.

This isn’t the first time hidden waterfalls have caused a stir. In the past, people have also raved about a variety found in North Wales too.

Accompanying his video, Dan wrote: “You may not think it but, yes, this waterfall is actually situated in Wales, and lies within the Brecon Beacons. It forms part of the Elidir Trail; a wellknown waterfall hotspot, but how many actually know about this hidden gem?

“Sgwd Einion Gam. Standing at 70ft, it is the second highest waterfall in South Wales and, with its surrounding tropical cliffs, this is surely the most impressive of them all.”

Since being shared, the video has garnered numerous views and sparked a flurry of comments. One viewer confessed they’ve visited many times, living not far from the site, but acknowledged the waterfall is “difficult” to reach.

Someone else commented: “Absolutely beautiful.” Another remark stated: “It’s great to see. Amazing to see when we have loads of rain.”

For those unfamiliar with the location, the cascade, also referred to as “the fall of the crooked anvil”, ranks as the second tallest waterfall in South Wales. It can be discovered deep within Waterfall Country.

Many regard it as amongst the most striking and enigmatic to be encountered in the Brecon Beacons, featuring dramatic and surrounding cliffs.

Despite being situated just half a mile upstream from the extremely popular Sgwd Gwladys, which forms part of the Elidir trail, many visitors remain unaware of the waterfall’s existence. This may be due to the challenging journey required to locate it, despite its proximity to other well-visited sites.

The path virtually vanishes shortly after Sgwd Gwladus and, combined with multiple river crossings, visitors must also navigate an unstable riverbank to reach their goal, requiring considerable effort.

According to Waterfallcountry.Wales: “Sgwd Einion Gam at 26m high is the second tallest waterfall located in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, Henrhyd Falls being slightly taller at 27 metres. Sgwd Einion Gam is a stunning waterfall that is located upstream from Sgwd Gwladys.

“The trail starts from the village of Pontneddfechan and follows a steep and rocky path through forests, along the way walkers will encounter a variety of wildlife and stunning natural scenery, including deep gorges and rocky outcrops.

“When you reach Sgwd Einion Gam, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the waterfall cascading down into a deep pool. There is also a rock formation behind the waterfall that allows for a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape.

“The route to Sgwd Einion Gam is considered to be challenging, with no identifiable path, steep and uneven terrain past Sgwd Gwladys. There may be the need to make several river crossing. This route can be dangerous other than when the river level is very low. It is important to note that the area can be slippery and extreme care should be taken.”
