Sheffield United picked up a valuable win on Tuesday night as they punished Blackburn Rovers for not taking their chances, emerging 3-1 victors.
Sheffield United are looking to turn their season around after a start to forget. Chris Wilder is back at the helm, and it feels as though the Blades are moving in the right direction.
On Tuesday night, SUFC made it back-to-back wins as they defeated fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers. Valerien Ismael claimed post-match it was “another great performance” from his side, but they were put to the sword in a strong second half from the visitors.

Influential in the comeback was midfielder Djibril Soumare. He was unfortunate not to be credited with the equaliser, but it was a bold performance in and out of possession from the 22-year-old.
The Senegalese talent was applauded off the pitch and serenaded by the traveling fans post-match as he produced a second consecutive impressive display in the starting XI. It feels as though Soumare is starting to gain momentum as part of Wilder’s turnaround at Sheffield United.
Djibril Soumare gaining momentum in Sheffield United
Sheffield United signed Soumare as a somewhat left-field addition in the summer. He had struggled for minutes at Braga after coming through their youth setup, prompting a loan to Nacional last season.
The Blades have signed him on a temporary basis with an option to buy. He certainly felt more like an addition for the long-term given the expectation it might take time for him to settle, but he is finding his feet and gaining momentum in red and white.

In a midfield that has lacked a physical presence since Vini Souza’s exit, Soumare has stepped up well. He’s shown a willingness to get stuck into duels with opposition players but also has the confidence required in his on-ball skills to be a success in the Championship.
This was recognised after a fine display against Blackburn Rovers. He was pushed over to lead celebrations with the away fans post-game; a just reward for his efforts.
Not only does it show Soumare is starting to gather steam, but it feels as though the fans are right behind him as he bids to make a name for himself at SUFC.
The prospect of Djibril Soumare staying at Sheffield United for good
As touched on before, there is the option to buy Soumare at the end of his loan. It means his future is effectively in the hands of Sheffield United.
It is down to him to impress though and earn a stay at Bramall Lane. Recent signs have been good, but the youngster won’t be taking his future or place in the starting XI for granted.
Djibril Soumare’s Sheffield United stats
Jairo Riedewald’s signing means there is now competition to be the main defensive, physical presence in midfield. Jamie Shackleton is fit again, and both Tom Davies and Oli Arblaster will hope to reclaim their places when fit.
For the time being though, Soumare deserves to retain his starting spot. He’s growing in confidence and it is reflecting in his performances
