Leeds United are no doubt thankful to see the back of some players who were relegated back in 2023, and last night proved it for a certain Eintracht Frankfurt duo, Robin Koch and Rasmus Kristensen.
United look a more resolute outfit than the one that was last in the Premier League during the 22/23 campaign.
While Leeds find themselves entrenched in another relegation scrap, they hopefully won’t have players looking disinterested when it comes to defending like last time.

Robin Koch and Rasmus Kristensen’s Eintracht Frankfurt handed a 5-1 pasting by Liverpool in the Champions League
To the surprise of many Leeds fans who quickly forgot about departed players post-relegation, Eintracht Frankfurt’s lineup against Liverpool on Wednesday night featured two former United men.
Defensive duo Rasmus Kristensen and Robin Koch started again after securing cut-price transfers to the Bundesliga side. Although, they weren’t able to prove why they’ve become mainstays in Eintracht’s defensive unit.
The Danish right-back did give the hosts a shock lead with a fierce low drive into the bottom corner. However, his work was swiftly undone by his fellow ex-Leeds man Koch.

A long ball to Hugo Ekitike saw the Liverpool man leave Koch in the dust to equalise. Four minutes later, Eintracht’s zonal marking from a corner left Koch woefully exposed as Virgil van Dijk towered over the German to head the Reds into the lead. Then, five minutes after that, the same thing happened again as Ibrahima Konate rose above Koch to head in.
Goals in the second half from Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai made it a complete rout. Koch and Kristensen were thumped 5-1.
Robin Koch disaster showing proves why Leeds United may be happy to have got rid
This nightmare showing from Koch isn’t a fair reflection of his time at Eintracht. After all, he was given the captain’s armband before he was even a permanent signing, so he must be doing well.
That being said, this total capitulation against a currently out-of-form Liverpool does just go to prove what we all knew.
Koch struggled badly in the Premier League despite glimpses where you thought he looked a Rolls Royce at the back. Kristensen was no better. If anything he was more catastrophic.
This five-goal drubbing brings back flashbacks of Leeds’ defence basically just giving up in the face of relegation back in 2023. The fact that very few of that squad remain at the club is a good thing for this season.
