The family of a boy who died on a railway line in the South West have paid tribute to him.

Harry Basham’s family have said the 17-year-old was a “brilliant and funny lad” who they will miss and “hold him close in [their] hearts always”.

Emergency services were called to the scene of an incident on the railway lines near Taunton, Somerset, around 7am this morning (Friday, October 24).

Despite the best efforts by paramedics, Harry was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is not thought to be suspicious.

Paying tribute to him, Harry’s family said: “We are absolutely devastated at the loss of our son, brother, and grandson Harry.

“He was such a brilliant and funny lad, progressing well into adulthood and so incredibly talented at sports and so much more.

“He was and forever will be a star to all of us, and we will miss him and hold him close to us in our hearts always.”

A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: “The family of Harry Basham, 17, who very sadly died earlier today, are paying tribute to him.

“Officers were called to the line near Taunton at around 7am today (24 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however despite their best efforts Harry was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
