A major new, Olivier Award-winning drama hits the West End tonight: Giant, a richly layered portrait of one of Britain’s most controversial literary icons, begins performances at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

The new drama is running at the Harold Pinter Theatre until 2 August 2025.

Mark Rosenblatt’s critically acclaimed play is directed by Nicholas Hytner, and transfers from a sold-out run at the Royal Court, where it was hailed as “gripping” (The Times) and “utterly unmissable” (The Guardian), to the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre.

Giant is inspired by true events, and blends dark humour and sharp insight to paint a complex portrait of a complex man: famous author and dangerously charismatic figure Roald Dahl.

Earlier this month the play won three 2025 Olivier Awards, including Best New Play, Best Actor for John Lithgow (3rd Rock From the Sun) as famous author Roald Dahl. Lithgow, who is also a Tony and Emmy Award-winning titan of stage and screen, brings all his formidable talents to portraying Roald Dahl – both his brilliance and his contradictions.

The drama also stars Elliot Levey (Cold War, Patriots, Good), who plays Tom Maschler, Dahl’s British Jewish Publisher. Levey won Best Actor in a Supporting Role at this month’s Olivier Awards for his performance in Giant.

The cast also features Olivier Award-nominee Rachael Stirling (The Divine Mrs S) as Felicity Crosland, Roald Dahl’s fiancée; Richard Hope (Hijack) as Wally Saunders, Dahl’s handyman; Aya Cash (The Boys, The Franchise, You’re the Worst), making her West End debut as US Publisher Jessie Stone; and Tessa Bonham Jones (Dune: Prophecy, The Young Woman and the Sea), returning to the production as Hallie.

Joining Nicholas Hytner in the creative team is design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Anna Watson, and sound design by Alexandra Faye Braithwaite. Casting is by Arthur Carrington, with general management by Short Street Productions, and the executive producer is Mark Rubinstein.

Giant is produced in the West End by Brian and Dayna Lee, Stephanie Kramer and Nicole Kramer, Josh Fiedler, and Robyn Goodman.

Giant is now playing at the Harold Pinter Theatre until 2 August 2025.
