A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following an attack outside a Birmingham train station.

West Midlands Police said Alvin Callum was found in a serious condition after he was assaulted near Perry Barr train station on Thursday, October 23.

Sadly, nothing could be done to save the 76-year-old victim.

Police said a 30-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder last night.

In a statement, police said today, Saturday, October 25: “We’ve arrested a man on suspicion of the murder of another man aged 76, who was attacked near Perry Barr train station on Thursday night.

“We were called to Birchfield Road by paramedics at around 9.50pm after Alvin Callum, aged 76, was found in a serious condition.

“Sadly, nothing could be done to save Mr Callum.

“Our enquiries have established that he had earlier been assaulted.

“Last night at around 8.40pm, we arrested a man aged 30 in the Perry Barr area on suspicion of murder.

“He remains in custody today.

“We are supporting Mr Callum’s family, and our investigation continues.

“We are still asking for anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage from the area at the time to get in touch, quoting log 5365 of 23 October.”
