A walk through St Johns Shopping Centre led me to stumble across the “best treat in Liverpool”. No, it wasn’t a cream cake from Greggs or a McDonald’s McFlurry but an offering from a small stall located in the shopping centre’s lower mall.

Coco Berry Liverpool is located next to the entrance near the Pound Bakery and has a sign next to its small stall claiming it is “the berry best treat in Liverpool”.

According to people in their TikTok comments, their treats are “amazing” and one even claimed it was “the best dessert I’ve had in such a long time”. Intrigued, I decided to give it a go.

The stall also offers a Dubai chocolate variation. Dubai chocolate, which usually comes in bars built like a small brick, has become a global sensation. The viral chocolate bars are filled with kadayif, a chopped filo pastry, and pistachio-tahini cream.

Their take on the chocolate filling comes with the fresh strawberries covered in chocolate sauce, but also a pistachio sauce and kadaif. I couldn’t wait to try it.

It looked absolutely heavenly. So much so, I sent a quick picture to my partner to boast about my beautiful-looking treat.

Now, £7 isn’t an amount I’d usually like to part with for a snack. I must admit I was slightly taken aback. But given there’s nothing really like it inside the shopping centre, and it uses fresh ingredients, it’s probably justifiable.

I took my sweet treat, which had been put inside a plastic cup alongside a wooden fork, back to the ECHO office on the other side of the city centre.

At first glance, it looked as though the strawberries were absolutely dripping with sauce but after a good look, this wasn’t the case.

I personally would have liked a little bit more with the sweet tooth I have, but at least I wouldn’t be needing a bib.

The strawberries tasted fresh and were juicy. The sauces had a lovely, sweet taste which complemented the fresh fruit well.

As someone who would smother anything in custard or cream, having fruit, albeit covered in sauce, as a sweet treat felt like a small win for me.
