A super fit Brummie says he has “completed Birmingham” after running along every one of the city’s 8,000 streets. Nigel Beecroft, 60, set off on his epic 2,500-mile trek after reading an article about the benefits of city running two years ago.
He started jogging every morning and evening and mapped his progress with fitness tracking app Strava. After the initial struggle of getting the challenge going, Nigel soon began to chirp up and picked up the streets with ease as he felt himself get stronger and stronger.
Nigel, from Harborne, says he completed his final streets last week before celebrating with a pint at his local pub. Speaking about his amazing achievement, he explained that he initially didn’t take the challenge seriously, but things all changed when the benefits began to kick in.

The associate director said: “It started as a bit of a quirky idea but I just got more and more into it. It became a bit of an obsession to complete Birmingham.
“I’ve always liked exploring and I wanted to do something not many people had,” he continued. “I’m sure there aren’t many people who have seen every single street in Birmingham.”
The married dad-of-one went through four pairs of trainers and fell over eight times throughout the course of the challenge. As well as this, he suffered a host of setbacks —all while avoiding obstacles and slipping on leaves as he pounded the streets.

He added: “Obviously I was running during the bin strike this year and that did cause a few challenges. Several times I had to leap over rubbish bags and be careful where I was stepping but generally it was fine.”
He is now planning to complete more running challenges to raise money for the Mace Foundation, a charity supporting people who have been in care. But he is not the only super fit lad to show off the power of getting fit older in life.
Bodybuilder Marlene Flowers is continuing to show off her own progress in toning her body, despite being 68-years-old. In a post she uploaded to her social media channels, she admitted that while she gets trolled for being “too old” to work out, that doesn’t stop her from reaching her perfect figure.

Captioning the video: “Granny standing on business. It’s never too late,” the Pittsburgh-based bodybuilder shrugged off the comments saying that she needed to cool off on her fitness. After shaking her head to the camera, she moves to the gym, where she is seen flexing her huge muscles in the gym, while doing things such as bicep curls and pull-ups.
Speaking about her own fitness journey, she admitted that she did begin her journey at a low point in her life. However, she continued: “You have to LEARN from your MISTAKES.
“Let them make you stronger; let them shape you into the person you want to be. I can confidently say that without my struggles; without the hard times that I have gone through; I would never have become the person that I am.”
