The arrest of a man who was suspected of breaking into a McDonald’s staff room led police to a huge stash of Cadbury’s chocolate. At around 7am on October 23, police received a report of someone gaining entry to the staff room at McDonald’s in Blundell Street, Brunswick and stealing AirPods.

A man matching the description was detained nearby by officers. Suspected stolen AirPods and a large quantity of suspected stolen chocolate were found. A 45-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods and has been taken to a police station for questioning.

Constable Wilton from Merseyside Police’s Liverpool city centre neighbourhood policing team said: “This was vigilant and swift police work which has brought a suspect into custody.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are keen to identify businesses that have recently had a large quantity of chocolate stolen.

“Crime targeting those who own, run and work in our businesses will never be tolerated and can have a significant impact on both individuals and organisations.

“We work closely with businesses, Liverpool City Council’s comprehensive Citywatch CCTV network and other partners to reduce such incidents and put those responsible before the courts.”

“We’d also like to take this opportunity to encourage businesses to consider taking a few simple steps that prevent opportunists from spotting an easy target.”
