The clocks go back an hour this weekend and in recognition of the darker nights, Umbrella Vinyl on Valleyfield Street is running Sunshine Sundays on the first Sunday of each month until spring.

The afternoons will be full of good music and the shop will be transformed into an “uplifting tropical escape”.

Laura Thomson, co-owner of Umbrella Vinyl, said: “The days are getting shorter and darker, so we wanted to offer people a bright, fun haven.

“On the first Sunday of the winter months, we’ll be playing feel-good, sun-soaked tunes only.

“Music has a profound effect on people’s mood and wellbeing.

“Sunshine Sundays will offer a simple remedy to winter gloom – good vibes, great music and a splash of sunshine right in the heart of Edinburgh.

“Customers will be transported to sunnier climes – no passport required.”

The Umbrella Vinyl team owners, Laura, Josh and Nick, will be playing Latin, Calypso, Afrobeat and more on Sunshine Sundays, and the shop will be decked out accordingly.

Laura, Josh and Nick’s favourite sunshine songs:

Laura: Girl from Ipanema by Astrud Gilberto – “Gorgeous Latin sounds that transport you to a beach in Brazil”

Josh: Mas Que Nada by Jorge Ben – “For me it’s the perfect sunshine tune. It’s a tropical masterpiece!”

Nick: Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong – “It reminds me of all those hours spent in the car anticipating Dorset beach holidays”

Sunshine Sundays will run on the first Sunday of every month until spring, 12-4pm at Umbrella Vinyl, 20 Valleyfield Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9LR.  www.umbrellavinyl.com
