Leeds fans must have been delighted when Heung-min Son left Tottenham for Los Angeles in August.

The South Korea international often troubled Leeds, scoring three goals and providing two assists in his five appearances against the Whites, while winning four of these encounters.

Whilst Son is now – fortunately – never likely to play at Elland Road again, he does still have some connection to Leeds in the form of Joe Rodon.

Heung-min Son says Joe Rodon is one of his best mates

During an interview with Shoot for Love, the 33-year-old revealed that the Leeds No.6 is one of his closest pals.

Son said: “Yeah, I am half Welsh, all of my best friends are Welsh, Joe Rodon, Gareth Bale.”

The man born in Chuncheon made 13 appearances alongside the Welshman during their time at Tottenham before he joined Leeds initially on loan in August 2023 – winning six and drawing three of those games.

Rodon even asked Son to look after Archie Gray when the Leeds United academy graduate made his £30m move to Tottenham, as the 19-year-old himself revealed.

Gray told Football London: “He (Son) is really good friends with Joe Rodon. Last year when Joe was at Leeds I was probably the closest with Joe when he joined, and I think when I came here Joe told Sonny to look after me a little bit.”

Strange Archie Gray treatment suggests Tottenham ought to have kept Joe Rodon

The Welshman has been a sensation since his £10m move from Spurs in July 2024, making his 95th consecutive start for Leeds in the 2-1 win over West Ham.

In the meantime, Thomas Frank is lacking depth in the centre of his defence, with Gray even starting the recent 0-0 draw against Monaco in that area alongside Kevin Danso.

The man from Durham also had to play there a lot last season under Ange Postecoglou, and despite performing well, it is not a position he should see his future in – having impressed a lot more in central midfield or on the right flank.

In the meantime, Rodon – who wants to be top scorer this season – has gone from strength to strength in Yorkshire, suggesting Leeds got the better of Tottenham in that £10m transfer.
