Virender Sehwag didn’t shy away from criticizing the Chennai Super Kings‘ batting lineup after another poor showing at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He particularly questioned why Ravindra Jadeja, with his vast experience, wasn’t taking more responsibility in stabilising the innings.
Speaking on Cricbuzz’s post-match show, Sehwag expressed his frustration with CSK’s performance, stating, “Earlier in the tournament, I felt like going home, and even CSK feels that way. Half of their batters are asking when they will be able to go home, and let this tournament come to an end.”
Sehwag also voiced his concerns about Jadeja’s batting position, pointing out that the all-rounder continues to bat at the number four. Jadeja managed 21 runs from 17 balls.
He further emphasized, “There needs to be accountability within the team. Brevis was stepping up, but even he got out while trying to play an aggressive shot.”
Sehwag also commented on Jadeja’s role, saying, “If Jadeja is batting higher up the order, his strike rate is useless, but at least he should stay at the crease until the 15th or 18th over so that the team can build around him.”
CSK were dismissed for just 154, with Ayush Mhatre (30) and Dewald Brevis (42) making substantial contributions. SRH’s bowlers kept up the pressure, picking up wickets regularly to limit the scoring. Harshal Patel claimed four wickets.
After Brevis was dismissed, CSK were 114-5 with seven overs to go, but the lower order couldn’t get the runs.
