There was no confirmation during Leeds United’s retained list or the summer window that 20-year-old defender James Debayo had actually left the club.
United made a number of changes to the squad during the summer window. Daniel Farke was in charge of cut-throat decisions to mould his side ahead of a return to the Premier League, including letting players go.
Some needed loans for better playing opportunities, while others simply had to leave Leeds in order to progress into the next stages of their career.

Where is James Debayo? Former Leeds United youngster still has no transfer exit confirmation
Leeds’ retained list in the summer saw four academy youngsters offered new terms to stay at the club: Rory Mahady, Coban Bird, Harvey Vincent and James Debayo.
Of those four, three of them were confirmed to have signed a new contract, but Debayo didn’t.

The only ‘confirmation’ regarding Debayo’s whereabouts came from Daniel Farke, who discussed the arrivals of Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw as replacements for Debayo and Max Wöber:
“We have, for example, replaced two centre-backs – Max Wober and James Debayo – with Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw,” he said at the time.
Has James Debayo found a new club yet after ‘leaving’ Leeds United?
Farke’s comments more or less confirm that Debayo is no longer at the club. It would make sense given that he’s not been present ever since at senior or U21 level.
Transfermarkt have the player listed on Leeds U21s’ books, still, which is of course incorrect. But, he’s not yet signed for another club it seems.
Football Insider reported that the 20-year-old gained interest from Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge, and Portuguese side SC União Torreense. No such confirmation at either club has followed since.
Debayo himself hasn’t shared any updates on social media since July 6th. Meanwhile, no new clubs have tagged the centre-back in any transfer activity.
Farke admitted he was “very impressed” by the youngster around a year ago. So, for his career to hit this brick wall is a frustrating development.
