A deliberate blaze tore through the shop in Glasgow’s southside in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Several roads have reopened in Glasgow after a “deliberate” fire tore through a shop in the city’s southside. The alarm was raised shortly before 6am on Tuesday, October 28 to the blaze in Pollokshields.
Emergency services, including four fire appliances and police, rushed to the scene on Albert Drive. As a result of the fire, Albert Drive, Kenmure Street, Leslie Street, and Keir Street were all closed to the public.
The streets have since reopened. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident, however, police are treating the fire as wilful and an investigation has been launched, according to GlasgowLive.
Photos taken at the scene show Albert Street blanketed in a deep haze as smoke pours out of the shop. The shop name has not been confirmed but one onlooker said it to be Londis when posting about the incident online.
Elsewhere, a firefighter can be seen in full gear standing on the pavement looking up. Otherwise, the street, which is still dark due to it being the early hours of the morning, looks abandoned.
Scottish actor and musician Tom Urie, known for his appearances in Chewin’ The Fat, The Karen Dunbar Show and playing Big Bob in BBC’s River City, posted about the incident on Facebook shortly after 6am.
Urie said he woke up at around 5.30am smelling smoke and when he looked out his living room window, saw the “Londis on the corner engulfed in flames”.
He went on: “The flames are right up the side of the building. Stagger about searching for my phone, and call 999. Fire brigade onsite just as I’m ringing.
“Within a minute most of the flames were gone but the whole street is engulfed in smoke.
“That is now corner number three to be hit by fire, the other two corners were completely destroyed. But it looks like this time, the fire service got it under control fast. Thankfully it looks like no one was hurt.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “All roads have re-opened following a fire at a building on Albert Drive, Glasgow, which was reported around 5.50am on Tuesday, 28 October, 2025.
“Emergency services attended and no serious injuries were reported.
“The fire is being treated as wilful, and enquiries are ongoing.”
Fire crews say the alarm was raised to them around 20 minutes before police, at 5:30am.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said at the time: “We were alerted at 5.29am on Tuesday, 28 October to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Albert Drive, Glasgow.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances to the scene where a fire is affecting the ground floor of a three-storey building. Crews still remain in attendance.”
