Sixteen projects have been selected to share a £1 million fund to celebrate Cymru women’s first-ever European championship football appearance.

The projects will include screening events, football activities for young people, training for female coaches and referees, and cultural celebrations.

The fund aims to promote Wales, highlight values of equality and inclusion, and encourage greater participation in women’s sport.

Among the projects receiving funding are two one-day street football tournaments for women, a dedicated Women’s Coaching Network, and a campaign to increase the number of female referees.

The initiative also includes murals in communities where Cymru players were born, and internationally focused classroom resources for primary schools to promote language learning and engage pupils in women’s football.

A poet-in-residence will accompany the Welsh football team during their campaign to record and celebrate the team’s journey.

An international programme will celebrate Welsh culture on a global stage, including performances and workshops by female Welsh artists in Switzerland.

Sports minister Jack Sargeant said: “This investment is not just about celebrating Cymru Women’s historic Euro 2025 qualification, it’s an opportunity to create lasting change across Wales.

“From community murals to international cultural showcases, these innovative projects will inspire the next generation, promote Welsh values globally, and create meaningful pathways for women and girls in football.”

The Foundation 4 Sports Coaching initiative, which received a £30,000 grant, aims to dismantle barriers hindering the participation of young women from Wales’ oldest Somali, Yemeni, and South Asian communities in football.

Afrowales – OTID Entertainment’s ‘Cymru Unleashed’ initiative, awarded £60,000, will celebrate Wales Women’s UEFA Euro 2025 by fostering sports participation among girls and marginalised communities.

The ‘Her Goal’ project, a collaborative initiative between Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales, the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, and Challenge Wales, received £43,000 to empower young people through football and other activities.

The FAW will implement a comprehensive strategy to bolster the development of women’s coaching in Wales, including the creation of a dedicated Women’s Coaching Network.

The programme will foster a lasting legacy by embedding cultural storytelling into the tournament experience, reinforcing national pride and identity.
