A popular Indian restaurant in South Gloucestershire has closed its doors suddenly, leaving customers disappointed. Spice Mahal in Rangeworthy was pictured on Sunday (October 26) shut and with a sign in its window.
The sign read: “Dear customers, we are very sorry the Spice Mahal restaurant is now permanently closed… Thank you very much for your custom and support…” Taking to a local Facebook group, customers and local residents dubbed the closure ‘the end of an era’ and took to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One said: “Just gutted for them all. Big loss for us in Rangeworthy. We have Indian every weekend from them. Hope they find new premises.”
Meanwhile, a second wrote: “Definitely shocked to hear about this. I always said it’s the best around and I always recommend it to people I work for and with.”
A third added: “The best curry ive ever had. Nothing comes close.” A fourth commented: “No doubt not helped by winter fuel prices, this is killing businesses. We are being made fools of.”
And another wrote: “This was the best Indian restaurant around for miles. It’s a sad day.”
According to comments under the post, Facebook users believed that the business had filed for voluntary liquidation and, according to records on the Gov.uk Companies House website, the Spice Mahal in Rangeworthy is stated as ‘due to be dissolved on January 1, 2026’ under the title ‘Case number 1 – Creditors voluntary liquidation’.
BristolLive has tried to contact Spice Mahal for comment on this matter.
More posts from locals and fans of the popular establishment questioned whether it would open up in a new location, though as of yet no updates have been confirmed by the restaurant team. The website is still live, however it’s believed staff have been emptying out the property this week.
