At this point, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who has not weighed in on Meghan Markle’s wildly popular Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Fans and critics of the Duchess of Sussex alike have been speaking out about the first season of her lifestyle series, where Markle shares gardening, hosting, and cooking tips alongside celebrity guests. So it is at once surprising and also not surprising to find lifestyle guru Martha Stewart herself has finally decided to weigh in with her opinion. Stewart has never been a woman to hold back on her opinion, but in this case she appears to be reserving judgment. For now.
Stewart was recently promoting her new NBC series Yes, Chef, which she will be co-hosting with chef José Andrés, when the subject of Markle’s series was broached. “I have not seen the show yet. Has it started?” Stewart said in an interview with Access Hollywood. It should be noted that Markle’s series started in early March. “I haven’t seen it yet, so I’ll watch an episode and see how she does. I’m curious.”
For his part, Andrés enthusiastically praised Markle. “I love Meghan, that she puts herself out there,” Andrés said in the same interview. “I [was] just in L.A. and she was showing up, in different places to feed people. Not trying to take attention or anything to herself, on the contrary, but was great that she was there, like many others, front and center. Like one more Angeleno next to people that needed hope and empathy.”
Markle and Andrés are reportedly close friends, with the Duchess of Sussex recently alluding to the fact that the World Kitchen chef is expected to be a guest on Season 2 of With Love, Meghan. The mom of two recently told TIME CEO Jessica Sibley on her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, “I can apologize in advance for saying José Andrés is going to be on season two. We love José so much.”
Andrés isn’t the only celebrity to defend Markle’s new lifestyle series. Goop’s own Gwyneth Paltrow praised Markle and shot down rumors of beef between the two. “I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes,” Paltrow said per Huffington Post. “I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”
Perhaps Season 2 of With Love, Meghan will see Paltrow as a guest as well? Or even, dare we hope, Martha Stewart herself? Now that would be some real must-see TV.
