It is that time of the year again when The Good Food Guide’s best pubs in the UK have been revealed. However, the 2025 list has snubbed Merseyside in its listings.

Despite the doom and gloom of Britain’s pubs, with one boozer per day closing on average in 2025. The Good Food Guide celebrates the best pubs in the country that offer great food and drinks.

The compiled index of the top 100 was published on Wednesday morning.

On what makes a good pub, Editor of The Good Food Guide, Chloë Hamilton, said: “We went searching for the pubs that nail the drinking and dining side of the equation. It turns out the harder you look, the more you find, and they’re not all hidden away in the Cotswolds. The Highlan dLaddie – a city-centre slam dunk – is a very good case in point.”

So, where is the best pub in the UK for 2025?

The Highland Laddie in Leeds took the top spot, which is a 100-year-old city centre institution that reopened in April 2025.

It is run by new owners Sam Pullan and Nicole Deighton (also of the Empire Café, Leeds) and has a Google rating of 4.7 thanks to its great food and drink.

One visitor said: “The standout aspect of our visit was the exceptional service. The staff was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and welcoming, making us feel right at home.

“This was undoubtedly the best dining experience we’ve had in Leeds in quite some time! We highly recommend it!”

A second commented: “Such good food in a great old, reopened and well set up old pub packed full of charm.”

A third added: “Incredible pub with amazing food. Was blown away by the quality of the cooking for the price. Great beers on tap and friendly staff. All set in a beautiful pub.”
