A woman was assaulted at Cabot Circus this afternoon (Wednesday, October 29). Avon and Somerset Police were called to the Broadmead shopping centre at 3.13pm.

Shoppers reported a major police presence as HSBC bank was evacuated. It remains closed and a cordon is in place while investigations take place.

Police say officers arrived within minutes and arrested a man in his 40s. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At 3.13pm today (Wednesday, October 29) we received a report that a woman had been assaulted at Cabot Circus in Bristol.

“Officers attended within minutes and arrested a man aged in his 40s.

“The victim has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“A cordon is in place while initial investigations take place and officers remain at the scene.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident should call 101, giving the call handler the reference number 5225303372.”

A witness described police officers running through the crowd and apprehending a man. Police were reportedly seen searching bins and removing a bin liner to be searched.
