A woman has sadly died after she was struck by a vehicle in Oldbury.

The lady, who was said to be in her 60s, was walking along the Wolverhampton Road, near the Wernley Pub, when she was fatally hit just after 6.30am.

Paramedics administered trauma care before transferring her to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, nothing could be done to save her.

A 31-year-old man who was previously detained on suspicion of drug driving has now been further arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Wolverhampton Road was closed in both directions while collision investigators carried out their enquiries but has now reopened.

West Midlands Police is appealing to anyone who saw what happened or who may have CCTV or dashcam to contact them.

The force said: “A woman who was seriously injured following a collision in Sandwell this morning has tragically died.

“She was taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle near the junction of Wolverhampton Road and Albert Road at just after 6.30am.

“The woman, aged in her 60s, has now sadly died and our thoughts and support are with her loved ones at this terrible time.

“A 31-year-old man who was previously detained on suspicion of drug driving has now been further arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“He remains in police custody for questioning.
