FUNDS RAISED: Michael Tarbatt from Sue Ryder receives a cheque from Tim Knight
The much-loved Leeds Christmas Choir concert is returning to Headingley Methodist Church in December.
No ticket is required — it’s a ‘pay as you feel’ event, with all proceeds
going to the Palliative Care and bereavement support charity.
The choir will, once again, be led by Leeds-based composer and conductor Tim Knight, on Saturday, December 20, at 3pm.
Over the last three years, Tim’s Summer and Christmas project choirs have raised nearly £4,000 for Sue Ryder through their summer and Christmas performances.
What began as a one-off summer choir has grown into a seasonal tradition, with people coming together to sing, connect, and support a cause close to home.
“Everyone in the choir knows someone who has been touched by the care Sue Ryder provides,” said Tim.
“That local connection is what makes this so special. People love that they’re doing something joyful that directly benefits their community.”
Rehearsals for this year’s Leeds Christmas Choir begin on December 3, and anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to sign up.
Participants pay a small fee to join, with three weeks of rehearsals leading up to the performance.
In lending their voices, singers will be supporting the vital work of Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice.
The 40-minute concert will feature a mix of traditional carols for audience participation and festive favourites performed by the choir.
Last year, shoppers and passers-by dropped in to enjoy the music and support the cause.
“It’s not about putting on a full-blown concert,” added Tim. “It’s about creating something meaningful, accessible, and full of heart — and people keep coming back because they love it.”
