A legendary TV and theatre star looked completely unrecognisable as he attended the London premiere of The Death of Bunny Munro at The Royal Festival Hall on Thursday.

The British actor, 72, who has had many notable roles across his extensive career in theatre, film and television, looked worlds away from his usual self as he arrived on the red carpet sporting a long grey beard.

For the outing, the star donned a navy textured blazer paired with an off-white scarf and a white T-shirt.

He completed his look with grey cargo trousers and a pair of comfortable black shoes.

The star appeared in good spirits as he posed for photographers ahead of the star-studded event.

But do you recognise him?

That’s right, it’s David Threlfall!

The actor, best known for portraying Frank Gallagher in the iconic Channel 4 series Shameless, stars as Bunny Munro senior in the upcoming Sky Atlantic drama.

He plays the father of main character Bunny Munro, portrayed by Doctor Who star Matt Smith.

The Death of Bunny Munro is an upcoming six-part television series produced by Clerkenwell Films for Sky Atlantic.

It serves as an adaptation of the 2009 Nick Cave novel of the same name and stars Matt and Rafael Mathé in the lead roles, with Smith and Cave also serving as executive producers.

A synopsis for the series reads: ‘Following his wife Libby’s death by suicide, sex addicted, door-to-door beauty product salesman and self-professed lothario Bunny Munro finds himself saddled with a young son and only a loose concept of parenting.

‘Together with Bunny Junior he embarks on an epic and increasingly out-of-control road trip across southern England as the two struggle to contain their grief in very different ways.’

David is known for playing the drunken layabout patriarch of the Gallagher family in the gritty Channel 4 show Shameless, which ran for 11 series from 2004 to 2013.

The TV series, which focused on single dad Frank and his several kids on Manchester’s Chatsworth council estate, launched the careers of stars including James McAvoy, Anne-Marie Duff and Maxine Peake.

The show, which also starred Rebecca Atkinson, Elliot Tittensor and Tina Malone, went on to inspire a hit US remake.

A success across the Atlantic, the American version starred Hollywood actor William H. Macy alongside Emmy Rossum and Amy Smart.

Away from Shameless, David has also appeared in TV hits including Funny Woman, Ricky Gervais’ dark comedy After Life, Troy, Charles Dickens adaptation Dodger, and drama series Code of a Killer.

He’s also appeared on the big screen in films such as Nowhere Boy, Hot Fuzz and Black Sea opposite Jude Law.

The Death of Bunny Munro is set to premiere on Sky on November 20.
