UK and Germany Sign £200 Million Contract for M3 EVO Bridging Vehicles

As noted by UK Ministry of Defence

Great Britain and Germany have agreed on a £200 million contract to purchase 36 M3 EVO amphibious pontoon-bridge vehicles manufactured by General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS).

According to a statement from the UK Ministry of Defence, the deal has been officially confirmed, and its details are laid out in the department’s official press release.

“Thanks to an investment of £200 million, the United Kingdom will purchase 36 large amphibious pontoon-bridge machines, manufactured by General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) in Germany. These machines allow troops and heavy equipment to be transported, forming pontoon bridges or ferry crossings across rivers”

Key Aspects of the Agreement and Technical Capabilities

Under the agreement, a certain number of similar machines will also be supplied to the German Army.

The new M3 EVO system enables rapid crossing of water obstacles more than 100 meters wide and the transportation of all ground equipment.

Additionally, Germany will receive the British General Support Bridge (GSB) system, capable of constructing a 46-meter bridge in under 90 minutes.

There are also plans to bolster defense capabilities: the United Kingdom is considering the purchase of 12 F-35A fighters and participation in a NATO nuclear mission using dual-use aircraft to strengthen regional security.

In summary, the agreement demonstrates the two countries’ commitment to enhancing mobility, integrated bridge infrastructure, and joint capabilities within modern defense tasks.
