Joel Piroe finds himself in an uncertain situation at Leeds.

The Dutchman made 36 starts in the Championship last season, winning the Golden Boot with 19 goals as Leeds won the title.

However, the man from Wijchen has made just two Premier League starts this term following the arrival of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who Daniel Farke clearly prefers to lead the line.

That easily could have led Joel Piroe to become disillusioned, but new footage from Thorp Arch suggests he remains very much committed to Leeds.

Joel Piroe impresses Joe Rodon with his determination in training drill

There is talk of Piroe leaving in January if his situation remains the same, but the Leeds No.10 does not look like a dejected figure in training sessions, at least.

Footage shows the striker partaking in a game of keep-ball at Thorp Arch ahead of the trip to Brighton, along with the likes of Sean Longstaff, Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk.

After Rodon sold his teammate short with a loose pass, their side looked set to lose the game, before Piroe raced towards the ball and stretched to reclaim possession just in time to keep it alive. The Wales international was impressed by this work rate, saying in the background: “Joel that’s unbelievable mate.”

It might not seem like much, but a player with eyes on a January exit most likely wouldn’t have put that extra effort in to regain possession like Piroe did, risking an injury by over-stretching in the process.

Leeds could still lose Joel Piroe

Graeme Bailey, Chief Correspondent for Leeds United News, was recently asked for an update on the 26-year-old.

It was learned that Piroe wants to be playing and that his agent is already in talks with some clubs ahead of a potential move in January, putting plans in place should his situation under Farke fail to change.

Bailey said: “It depends what Leeds bring in. It’s a squad game and they don’t want to be caught short.

“He will want to play more, but how would allowing Piroe to leave benefit Leeds? I guess there’s a chance, but I’d be pretty amazed if he did leave in January.

“His agent is going to be talking to clubs now and working on it. Let’s see what happens. He clearly wants to be playing, as most players do.”
