London is unequivocally a foodie destination. We are a city obsessed with food and drink, and boast some of the best restaurants in the entire world (if we do say so ourselves, rather humbly). As such, you’ll find markets and culinary destinations tucked around every corner of our capital. These range from hole-in-the-wall eateries to blow-out Michelin restaurants and entire streets filled to the brim with street food vendors. But we got to wondering: which of our lauded offerings is actually the best food market in London?

We decided to put the question to you, dear reader, and find out which foodie hotspot is officially the best food market in the city. After picking your brains to crown the city’s best borough, and its most iconic landmark, we returned to Instagram to get your opinions.

Now, we did narrow the options down to begin with – so don’t go shouting at us if your favourite didn’t make the cut. In order to make it as easy as possible for people to vote, we put up a poll with the four most iconic London food markets. And the winner should come as no surprise…

Blowing the competition out of the water, none other than the world-famous Borough Market stormed into the top position as London’s best food market. It’s easy to see why, though, given the market’s storied reputation around the world. Whether you’re grabbing a legendarily oozy grilled cheese, browsing the fresh produce, exploring new and unusual flavours, or joining the queue at the latest viral street food phenomenon, it’s not just a market – it’s an entire experience.

If we’re being completely honest, there was hardly any competition. Borough Market topped the polls handily, with almost 1,000 more votes than the second-placed food market. That’s even more impressive when just over 2,000 votes were cast in total. In the poll, Borough Market received 1,257 of the 2,004 total votes. This meant it earned a whopping 63% of the vote.

Coming up behind (not that closely, though) was Spitalfields Market in 2nd place. The culinary hotspot boasts some of London’s most talked-about up-and-comers in the food scene, and earned 17% of the vote.

Not too far behind, with just 40 fewer votes, was Camden Market in 3rd place. And rounding out the listings was Portobello Market, which received just 90 votes (5%) and slid into 4th position!
