Spring marks the start of camping season in the UK with many families planning trips away with the tent over the coming weeks.
Camping is an excellent chance to immerse yourself in nature and explore a new place without forking out substantial sums of money.
As we look ahead to the summer months, the website Pitchup.com has revealed its gold-rated campsites across the country.
The website offers more than 3,600 sites across the UK to book, but only 26 of these have achieved ‘gold status’. It means they have achieved a full 10/10 in the previous year’s customer reviews.

Among the sites is Riverside Camping near Caernarfon, North Wales, around a two hour drive from Manchester. The large site has pitches for tents, caravans, camper vans and lodges for those who want a more luxurious experience.
As the name suggests, it is located right next to the water in a sheltered loop of the River Seiont and is surrounded by woodland for the ultimate escape to nature.
The river is suitable for fishing, birdwatching, boasting and even paddling. It aslo provides a stunning backdrop to the campsite.
On the doorstop of Riverside Camping are the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia, just a few minute’s drive away. Or head over to Anglesey and explore its amazing beaches.

There’s no shortage of things to do at the campsite itself, which is excellent for families.
Guests can have a game of volleyball or badminton, and there’s even a mini grass football pitch. A playground for kids and a mini play house ensure little ones won’t be bored during your stay.
Riverside Camping has an undercover picnic area should the weather change, or you can visit the on-site bistro, The Mill, which serves light lunches, snacks, wine and local ales.
You can even tuck try a proper Welsh breakfast complete with laver bread.
One Pitchup reviewer described it as the “nicest campsite” they’ve ever been to. They wrote: “This is the nicest campsite we’ve ever stayed at – beautifully landscaped, excellent facilities and camping by the river was a joy – we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anybody and will definitely be staying here again!”
Another said: “Friendly welcome & shown around the site which was very helpful. The site is very clean, with great showers , beautiful surroundings. The kids loved the park and the river. We will definitely be returning!”
