When Northern Irish journalist Niall Stanage first arrived in the United States in late 2003, George W Bush was a president navigating a post-9/11 nation in the midst of his ‘war on terror’.
“Obviously there was a lot of opposition to him, primarily rooted in opposition to the Iraq War, but for other reasons as well. But that was still, I would say, opposition within the normal parameters of politics,” he tells the Belfast Telegraph.
