Have you heard? Santa is swapping his reindeer-drawn sledge for a vintage steam train this Christmas. And he’s inviting you to join him.
The Santa Steam Express (from rail company Steam Dreams) is returning to London Victoria Station for two days next month. The main man and his troupe of elves will be roaming the carriages of the 1940s locomotive as it chugs around south London, providing festive entertainment, handing out traditional gifts and generally spreading Christmas cheer.
Tickets for the steam train tend to be very popular, so we recommend booking early if you want to join Santa and friends. Here are all the details you need.

When does the Santa Steam Express return?
The train will be running for multiple 90-minute trips on Saturday, December 20 and Monday, December 22. Journeys are scheduled to run at 9.15am, 11.45am, 3.15pm and 5.15pm on each day.
What’s included in the tickets?
Each child on board gets a gift from St Nick and his elves, as well as an activity sheet, a snack and a drink for the journey. For the adults, there’ll be tea or coffee and a mince pie.
How much does the Santa Steam Express cost?
There are three types of tickets to choose from. Coach class starts at £55 (recommended for parties of four or eight) and club class starts at £75 (apparently best suited for groups of two to six). You could also book a private compartment for up to six people from £600. Book your spot on this year’s Santa Steam Express here.
