London Bridge station was plunged into disruption on Monday evening (November 3) as “armed police and sniffer dogs” responded to reports of a man behaving “suspiciously” on board a train.

British Transport Police officers were alerted to a passenger allegedly acting erratically on board a Thameslink service travelling from St Albans towards the capital at around 6.30pm.

The train was halted at London Bridge, where police conducted a full search of both the train and two platforms. One eyewitness reported seeing armed officers and sniffer dogs boarding the train.

Platforms 4 and 5 were evacuated, and passengers were seen leaving other platforms too. Cops later confirmed that no suspect was found matching the description they were given, and insisted there was no threat to the public.

“[The] Train was stopped while officers carried out full search. No one matching the description found, while officers satisfied there is no risk to public, CCTV enquiries are ongoing,” British Transport Police posted to social media.

Thameslink said the route was no longer being impacted by the police incident from around 8pm, adding that passengers who experienced delays of 15 minutes or more could be eligible for a refund.

“Following reports of suspicious activity, police checks have been completed, and services are no longer being affected. If you have been delayed by 15 minutes or more, you may be eligible for delay repay,” Thameslink posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Former Conservative MP Ben Howlett said he was present during the evacuation and added that tensions were heightened following Saturday’s mass stabbing on a LNER train travelling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, which injured 11 people.

“First day back at work and everyone’s quite jumpy about getting on trains for obvious reason – just been evacuated from London Bridge train station with everyone else – no announcements, any idea what’s going on?”
