A man who was tragically killed in a collision alongside his beloved dog has been named and pictured for the first time.

Tributes are being paid to Andrew Old, 61, who was killed in a collision on Greenwood Road, in Wythenshawe, on Sunday, March 9.

Mr Old sadly died at the scene along with his dog, Liddy, despite the best efforts of emergency services.

It’s understood that the pair were hit by a car which had collided with a taxi before flipping and landing at the side of the road, close to the junction with Hollyhedge Road.

In a statement issued today (April 27), Mr Old has been remembered as a much-loved son, brother and uncle.

Paying tribute, his family said: “Andrew was our happy go lucky brother and he is so sadly missed by us all.

“We miss his smiles, his laughter, his jokes and his hourly phone calls. Words cannot describe the shock and disbelief that we feel due to the loss of Andrew, we are absolutely devastated.

“Andrew tragically died only metres from his home, whilst walking his lovely dog Liddy.

“The only solace we have is that Andrew and Liddy were not alone at such a horrific time and that they were together. Andrew and Liddy will always be in our hearts.”

Emergency services raced out to the scene at around 5pm on March 9, with a major cordon put in place.

A woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving before being released on bail.

A witness involved in the collision claimed the taxi she was in with her younger siblings was hit by a driver ‘head on’.

She claimed the other car had been speeding up while travelling on the wrong side of the road.

Madison Burrows, 19, who was sat in the front passenger seat of the taxi involved with her family in the back, said: “The taxi tried to swerve but he couldn’t move as there was a car in the lane next to us. I realised no matter what, we were about to get hit.

“At first when I got out the car I saw the dog. It was my sister who then started screaming. I looked and saw the man at the side of the road.

“Seeing the man and his dog at the side of the road was one of the most traumatising things ever. Whenever I close my eyes I just keep seeing him. I’ll never get the image out of my head.”
