A man was taken to hospital after a fight broke out in the early hours of this morning, April 27. Police were called to Canon Road in Anfield just after 12.25am after reports of a fight outside the Canon Pub.
Officers found a man in his 50s with an injury to his ear as well as slash wounds to his hands and leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment where he remains in a stable condition.
Two men from Liverpool, aged 54 and 56, were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.
They were taken into custody for questioning where they remain.
A cordon was still in place on Canon Road this afternoon. Photographs from the scene show two police vehicles stationed on Townsend Lane near the turning for Canon Road.
Police have spoken to witnesses at the scene and are looking for CCTV footage to assist their enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Mike Dalton of Merseyside Police said: “Merseyside Police is committed to tackling the use of weapons on our streets and bringing those prepared to carry and use knives to justice.
“We conduct stop searches, warrants and land searches all year round to take such weapons out of circulation and continue to appeal for the public’s help to tell us who is storing and carrying them.”

DCI Dalton added: “We know there are likely to have been people out on Saturday evening into Sunday in the area of Canon Road/Townsend Lane who may have witnessed part of this incident.
“If you have any information, however small it may seem, please contact police so that we can bring the offenders to justice.”
