The former Life Wirral Sports School premises on Victoria Road in New Brighton is on the market for £595,000.

The school hit the headlines in June last year, after a Panorama reporter spent almost seven weeks working there undercover.

The BBC reported that the reporter “witnessed staff using offensive language to mock pupils for their neurodiversity or learning disabilities, as well as manhandling them into dangerous headlocks”.

The broadcaster says it carried out the undercover investigation after whistle blowers told Panorama “abuse was still happening there 12 months after the council was warned of problems”.

A police investigation was launched following the broadcast and the school was closed down.

Five staff members were suspended and three men later charged in connection with allegations of child cruelty at the school.

One of them Elliott Millar, 21, from Irby, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court in November after pleading guilty to assaulting three pupils.

Daniel McNulty-Doyle, 21, of Rockfarm Grove, Little Neston has denied using threatening, abusive word or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Oliver Nugent, 26, of  Seaview Avenue, Irby, has denied a charge of assault by beating.

Both are awaiting trial.

The property, which was not owned by Life Wirral Sports School, is now up for sale through Bakewell & Horner.
