A detective constable is accused of being under the influence of cocaine while on shift. Merseyside Police officer DC McVey is set to go before an accelerated misconduct hearing chaired by Chief Constable Rob Carden on November 13.
It is alleged the officer breached the Police Standards of Professional Behaviour on July 31 this year by attending work with cocaine – over 1000 ng/ml Benzoylecgonine – in his system. This meant he was not fit for duty.
Not only is the officer accused of breaching the Police Standards of Professional Behaviour, but by taking a class A drug, the force alleges he breached the law and failed to act in accordance with force policies.
The listing, posted on the Merseyside Police website: “An accelerated misconduct hearing will be held at Merseyside Police Headquarters, Rose Hill, Liverpool, L3 3AN on Thursday 13 November 2025 at 10am and is scheduled to last one day.
“The hearing will be chaired by Chief Constable Carden.
“Being an officer of Merseyside Police on 31 July 2025, Detective Constable McVey is alleged to have breached the Police Standards of Professional Behaviour as set out in Schedule 2 of the Police Conduct Regulations 2020 (Amended 2024).
“Detective Constable McVey is alleged to have breached the following Standards of Professional Behaviour:
“Fitness for duty: In that in attending work with cocaine (over 1000 ng/ml Benzoylecgonine) in your system, you were not fit for duty.
“Orders and Instructions: In that in taking a class A drug you have breached the law and failed to act in accordance with force policies namely the substance misuse policy.
“Discreditable Conduct: In that in taking illegal drugs and parading for duty whilst under the influence of those drugs you have acted in a manner that is likely to bring the police service into disrepute.”
