Nineteen people have been charged after police and members of the public were attacked with fireworks in Birmingham on Wednesday.

The accused, aged between 14 and 25, face charges that include public order offences and assaulting police.

The West Midlands force said a Section 60 order in place on Bonfire Night had given officers extra powers to stop and search people.

Arrests were made in the city centre’s Dale End area and Staniforth Street and no-one was seriously hurt in the disorder, according to police. The accused have been bailed to appear before magistrates on 20 November.
