It’s not Christmas without an extravagant pub display, now is it

In recent years, there is one pub in Greater Manchester that has become known for its festive displays – and the level of expectation gets bigger and bigger each Christmas.
Because of that, The Black Friar, on Blackfriars Road in Salford, has gone all out this year. Their now-famous installation features more than 3,000 baubles and has been created by Cheshire-based floral artist Kelly Louise Chapman.
There’s just as much effort gone inside the venue with all-out winter decorations and its very own Santa’s Workshop.
The magic continues in The Black Friar’s Winter Tavern, which has been decked out with glistening decorations as well as heaps of presents and other festive delights which perfectly complement the crackling fireplace.

There will also be bespoke winter cabins, which can seat up to eight people, and will be perfect for cosy catch-ups and late-night drinks, including the chance to try out the Black Friar’s new festive mulled rum as part of a team up with Salford Rum.
The venue is also serving a special festive menu, featuring a range of seasonal delights and exciting new dishes including a turkey ballotine with chestnuts, shredded sprouts and roast fondant potato, as well as a seared sea trout, a chickpea and lentil meatloaf, and Blackfriar’s classic Steak and Ale pie.
Visitors will also be able to send a letter to Santa(Image: Manchester Evening News)
There will also be the king scallop puff pastry pie, a honey glazed ham hock crumpet, and a roast chestnut and mushroom lasagne. Festive menus will be available to order from November 17, running until December 30.
The desserts menu is led by a show-stopping caramelised pear and apple strudel, served with amaretto custard, and also includes the likes of a butterscotch tart, a festive sticky pudding or a redcurrant and sherry trifle. Walk-in’s are welcome, but booking will be advised.

Every guest dining at The Black Friar this Christmas will also be invited to write a Letter to Santa, where they can write down their greatest wish and send it straight to the North Pole. Santa himself will be reading each one and selecting 12 lucky guests to receive a gift from their list during the 12 days of Christmas celebrations.
The Black Friar is on 41-43 Blackfriars Road, Salford, M3 7DB.
