Two teenagers are due to appear in court after a man was allegedly punched and hit with a tree branch. Merseyside Police were called at around 1.50am on Friday, October 10, with reports that the suspects began following a group of people on Smithdown Road in Wavertree and demanded their phones.

Police said one man was then punched in the back and hit with a tree branch. Following enquiries, two teenagers aged 13 and 14, from Wavertree, and who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested and have now been charged with robbery, three offences of attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

They were remanded to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court this week. Merseyside Police said they were conditionally bailed to appear at Liverpool Youth Court on November 11.

Detective Inspector Lee Egerton said: “We take reports such as this extremely seriously. People have every right to walk around residential streets at any time of day free from the fear of being targeted in this way.

“I would urge anyone who has seen any suspicious or criminal activity in their area to report it to us. We regularly target patrols where the public tell us there are issues, and can liaise with partners around improvements to lighting and CCTV in order to further deter offenders where we know incidents have occurred.”
