Its owners are retiring
Playfull Toyshop on Gloucester Road has confirmed this will be its last Christmas
A toy shop on Bristol’s iconic independent shopping road is closing its doors after 23 years of service. The Playfull Toyshop on Gloucester Road has announced it will be closing at the end of the year after more than two decades, as the shop’s owners head into retirement.
In a Facebook post bidding people ‘farewell’, owners Kerstin and Nigel Price wrote: “Yes, it’s time to bid a fond farewell from all of us at Playfull Toyshop to all of you, our loyal customers and supporters.
“Our final day of trading will be on New Year’s Eve. By that time we are expecting the shelves to be almost empty. Please carry on shopping at all great independent shops wherever they may be! Your local High Street really needs you.
“Our favourite motto – ‘shop like Your High Street depends on it, because it really does!’ A massive thanks again for all our great memories created by you, our lovely customers over the last two decades or so.
“23 years of crazy Christmases and this is going to be our last, hopefully we’ll get to see some familiar faces before we close our doors.”
‘The best shop on Gloucester Road’
The toy shop was set up by Kerstin and Nigel in the summer of 2002 and since then has gained a loyal following of customers thanks to the selection of wooden children’s toys, crafts, books and music on its shelves.
Fans were quick to share their sadness. One said: “Oh my goodness – sad to hear this news, but so grateful for the precious part you have played in our daughters’ childhoods – our home would be so much the lesser if we hadn’t had your adored shop in our lives, introducing us to so many beautiful objects and stories!
“We wish you so much happiness in your retirement and will cherish all our many Playful treasures!”
A second wrote: “Best shop on Gloucester Road! Happy retirement! Thanks for all the gorgeous toys, books and times in your beautiful shop.”
While a third commented: “Enjoy the next adventure! My family love your shop and the toys we bought there. Thank you.”
