While Bury ended their winless run with an impressive 2-0 victory against Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday, Bootle will be smarting from their heavy defeat they suffered at Chasetown.

McNabb, who left the Merseyside club to take over at Bury just over two years ago, is looking forward to being reunited with some ‘really good people’, but knows his side are in for a tough challenge.

“I’m excited, I’m looking forward to it and looking forward to going back and meeting some really good people,” he told the club website.

“It’s an unbelievable club, the work that they do in the community and everything else.

“I think it’s a really special club.

“We could have done without them getting beat in the manner they did (against Chasetown) because I’m pretty sure they’re going to be even more up for it to go and get three points on the board.

“We’ll assess where we’re up to, we know how tough a game it will be, we’ve been and watched them so we’ll assess that and plan and prep as we normally do.”

Having gone three games without a win – back-to-back defeats to Sporting Khalsa and Mossley before drawing with Vauxhall Motors – McNabb was pleased to get back to wining ways thanks to second half goals from Tyler James and Kai Evans.

“I was pleased overall,” said McNabb. “Obviously we’ve been in a bit of a bad run in terms of performances and particularly results, but I thought we controlled the game throughout.

“The tempo and intensity was too slow first half but second half we picked it up and went up a gear or two and the pressure told straight away.

“I thought Kidsgrove did really well defensively, I thought they dug in deep, clearly came with a game plan, executed it really well first half.

“But then we just switched it up a little bit second half and you could see the difference it made.

“All of a sudden we’re breaking lines, we’re getting on the half turn, we’re driving forward, creating chances.

“We got that breakthrough and as soon as we got the first one, it looked like it was going to go on to two. Probably should have scored another one maybe, but we’ll take it and we’ll move on.”
