Liverpool band Luvcat started their headlining Lipstick and Pearls Tour at the SWG3 TV Studio in Glasgow on Thursday 6 November following the release of their debut album Vicious Delicious.

This was Luvcat’s biggest headlining show to date as they brought their moody and romantic atmosphere to audiences in Glasgow.

The band hit the stage at 8:30 pm following a tantalising performance from the opener, Attic Girl, an hour before. As soon as the lights fell, it felt as if the audience were instantly transported from Glasgow to an intimate jazz bar in Soho.

The Opener: Attic Girl

Attic Girl had a beautifully emotive 25-minute performance which told the story of the character Attic Girl and her recovery after her ill-fated love with the cruel basement boy, through both song and poetic dialogue.

The lighting throughout the performance was phenomenal. We saw Attic Girl’s feelings of anger and foolishness reflected by the ambient red lighting.

As Attic Girl’s story came to a close, we saw the music take on more of an energetic beat from the previous melancholia. This was accompanied by a switch to blue lighting as she found herself free by the sea.

I got a chance to speak to Attic Girl after the show, where she revealed that this was her first show. This was something that blew me away as her performance felt both raw and perfectly conducted.

Luvcat’s performance was amazing throughout as the band dominated the stage and grabbed the full attention of the audience.

The set was gorgeous and fit the vibe of the album as it was decorated with strings of pearls and vintage lamps, creating a truly immersive experience.

A peak moment of their show was their cover of ‘Helena’ blended into ‘I’m Not Okay’ by My Chemical Romance that could only be described as hauntingly beautiful and was such a treat to see live.

Another, was during the title track performance, ‘Vicious Delicious’, where they brought out long-time friend and opener, Attic Girl.

The setlist

Luvcat had a fantastic setlist of songs both from the new album as well as an unreleased song and a cover. These all had an entertaining little introduction of the story behind the particular song which provided for great setup.

Some highlights of the setlist were songs like Laurie and Spider that saw lead singer Sophie accompany her voice with a graceful performance on the piano.

Another highlight of the set was the encore where the band came out with an outfit change that was reminiscent of My Chemical Romance’s Black parade outfits with their own Luvcat twist.
