Federico Chiesa opens up on the support of the Liverpool fans during his time at Anfield
Federico Chiesa speaks to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City, November 2025
Federico Chiesa admits he was initially embarrassed by the support he received from the Liverpool fans due to his limited time on the pitch under Arne Slot last season.
And the Italian says he is now honoured to have the supporters cheer for him on a weekly basis at Anfield, insisting he is happy at the club after a summer transfer window of speculation linking him with a return to his homeland.
Chiesa made just one Premier League start last term, against Brighton after the Premier League title had been won in May, and the £12m capture from Juventus has already made more appearances in the top flight this time out under Slot than the entirety of the 24/25 term.

Chiesa’s terrace anthem has become one of the most popular in recent years at Liverpool but the 28-year-old admitted he was uneasy with hearing it so loudly last season at a time when he was struggling to break into the team.
“At the beginning, it was a bit embarrassing,” Chiesa told Sky Sports. “They were singing for someone who wasn’t playing! But I did appreciate it a lot.
“Then, when I started playing, and the goals came, in the last few months, I was glad because it did make sense at the end. Then they are singing for someone who is actually someone [who is playing].
“But the support has been amazing. I’m really happy and I’m really honored to play for such an amazing fanbase. [Having a good rapport with fans] is what you hope for. Last year, I didn’t play much so having this support from the fans was a good reason to try and give more.
“I do it on a daily basis, but having the support from the fans, it helps you to give more. I think they like me because I do give my best every time I play. I try to give my best. I’m happy.
“My wife sometimes sings it to me and also sometimes the players. I am a bad singer but I do sing it sometimes but even my wife as well, sometimes. It’s a nice tune.”
Chiesa added: “Winning the Premier League. It was so special because it was my first championship, even though I didn’t play that much last year. Winning it at Liverpool, for Liverpool, playing with amazing players was just unbelievable.
“Even though I didn’t participate that much I was glad I won that trophy. Where does it rank? I guess the European Championship has to be at the top my list because winning for your country is just amazing.
I have to put that [first] and then one for Juventus and then after that it is the Premier League.”
