Thousands of people across Greater Manchester have backed calls for a UK-wide ban on selling fireworks to the general public.
A petition to Parliament calls for the Government to limit the sale of fireworks to those running local council approved events.
As of 8pm on Sunday, November 9, the petition has been signed by more than 96,000 people.
Any petition to Parliament that receives more than 10,000 signatures requires a government response, with any that receives more than 100,000 being considered for debate.
Of the Greater Manchester parliamentary constituencies, the area where the most people have signed the petition is Rochdale, with 581 signatures.
Heywood and Middleton North has the second highest number of signatories, at 432 as of the time of writing. You can see where your area sits in our full list below.
The petition states: “Limit the sale of fireworks to those running local council approved events only
“Ban the sale of fireworks to the general public to minimise the harm caused to vulnerable people and animals. Defenceless animals can die from the distress caused by fireworks.
“I believe that permitting unregulated use of fireworks is an act of wide-scale cruelty to animals.”
The petition comes as youths with fireworks caused yet another night of problems in Bolton on Saturday evening.
Elsewhere in recent days, fireworks were thrown at police and firefighters during an incident in Merseyside, while in Lancashire a four-year-old girl has been left fighting for her life after being hit by a firework on Bonfire Night.
