A ceremony was held on the Royal Mile earlier today at the Stone of Remembrance.
The official party laid wreaths to remember members of the armed forces who have died in the First and Second World Wars, as well as more recent conflicts.
The First Minister, John Swinney, attended along with the Lord Provost, Cllr Robert Aldridge, the Presiding Officer of The Scottish Parliament, Alison Johnstone and the Secretary of State for Scotland, Douglas Alexander MP.
The RAF Central Scotland Pipes and Drums led a parade from Edinburgh Castle to the City Chambers at 10.30am, followed by Royal British Legion Scotland National Standard Bearers, Tri-Service Cadets, The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, veterans’ organisations, and Service detachments from the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force.
The One O’Clock Gun was fired at 11.00am from Edinburgh Castle as the country fell silent for two minutes in memory of those who have died in wars and conflicts.
The Rev Dr Scott M Rennie MA BD STM FRSA, Minister of St Giles’ Cathedral, then led a short Service of Remembrance.
