Cheltenham Town are set to sign forward Hakeeb Adelakun on a short-term deal until January, Gloucestershire Live understands.

The 6ft 3in 29-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Salford City in the summer.

He scored both of Salford’s goals in their 2-1 home win over Cheltenham last season after going on from the bench, ending the campaign with 13 goals.

Adelakun has previously been on the books of Scunthorpe United, Bristol City – for whom he appeared in the Championship – and Lincoln City, also appearing on loan for Rotherham United, Hull City, Gillingham and Doncaster Rovers.

The Hackney-born player, who can operate across the front line, spent time in the youth set-ups at Crystal Palace and West Ham United.

He will now become Cheltenham’s third signing since Steve Cotterill returned as manager, following midfielder Ben Stevenson and defender Jonathan Tomkinson.

The Robins play Notts County at home in League Two on Monday evening (8pm kick-off).
