There was actually a point we were starting to feel sorry for Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) in Emmerdale.
Yes, he’s a violent man who threatens death as easily as a normal person offers to buy someone a drink, but for a moment it truly looked like he loved Robert.
Ah, but then came the kicker – Kev is not the dying man everyone believes him to be, and has tricked Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) into renewing their vows. This came to light when he collapsed on his vow renewal day and as Liam stepped into help, he learned the truth.
Meanwhile, Robert was between the sheets with Aaron (Danny Miller), deciding to break things off with his unhinged husband. He promised Aaron he’d head off right away and call off the ceremony, but on learning Kev had collapsed again, the pair decided they could put their love on hold until Kev dies.
Robert and Kev went through with the vows with only Liam (Jonny McPherson) knowing the truth but having been scared into silence by Kev.
So now Robert must play doting husband believing Kev to be dying and with Kev most definitely using his ‘impending death’ to keep Robert right where he wants him.

Robert so desperately wants to be with Aaron but is feeling crippled by the thought of abandoning Kev and making his last few months so miserable, despite having promised Aaron they’d be together.
He’s surprised when Aaron, waiting in the wings for his lover to get his act together, agrees for Robert to be able to nurse Kev in his final days.
Kev is not unaware of the continued connection between Robert and Aaron and it’s leaving a very sour taste in the madman’s mouth.
Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah), Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) and co plan a housewarming party and Kev decides he’ll go along. Awkward, as both Robert and Aaron plan to be there, but Aaron promises to keep their secret rekindled love on the down low.

Struggling Kev rocks up drunk and decides that the best way to impress Robert is to prove how carefree he is with a bit of karaoke. It backfires spectacularly in a huge ball of cringe.
It’s unsurprising that volatile Kev doesn’t take embarrassment or rejection well, and while most people would hide under the duvet for three days and drown in beer fear, Kev plans something way more extreme to manage his emotions.
Alone in Woodbine, Kev’s next move becomes clear – and possibly deadly – as he pores over a shiny new handgun. Who is the gun meant for?
