LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – In December, Quaynell King was shot and killed on Versailles Rd. in Lexington.
King’s partner is now saying she is helping her daughter and other children who have lost loved ones to process their big emotions that come with grief and loss.
“As a parent, it is my job to teach her and help her communicate her feelings and emotions,” said Brionna Conn, Quaynell’s partner.
Conn says her interactive journal, My Heart Remembers Dad: Interactive Grief Journal for Children, is based on the journey of her daughter Quaylani following the death of her father.
Conn included King’s story in the pages of the book. She said the book is about continuing King’s legacy of giving back.
King was known as a community activists, helping Lexingtonians in need.
“I felt like [the book is] a good way for children to be comfortable with those emotions that they’re feeling and have them honor their loved one because their memory will always live on,” said Conn.
Conn said Quaylani is still a little young to fully understand what the book says and what the entire situation means, but Conn said she wants the book to embody what she says king was all about — peace and positivity.
“You’re a strong little girl, you’re beautiful, the things that her dad says, she often times repeats those things, and I don’t want her to forget,” said Conn.
King’s family has started a GoFundMe to help support his children, Quayveon and Quaylani, and to help give back to the community that King’s family says he loved.
