The Spanish Football Federation released a statement expressing its “surprise and discomfort” upon discovering that the player had undergone a procedure without prior notice to the coaching staff.
Just hours before the start of the Spanish National Team’s training camp, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) decided to release Lamine Yamal from the squad for the matches against Georgia and Turkey. The reason was a medical treatment performed on the Barcelona player without the knowledge or authorization of the national team’s medical staff, which caused a scandal on the eve of the double FIFA date.
In an official statement, the RFEF explained that the medical services learned about the intervention at 13:47 on Monday, November 10, the day the training camp began. “The RFEF Medical Services wish to express their surprise and discomfort after learning that the player Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure to treat his pubic discomfort that same morning”, the text stated.
The organization added that the treatment was carried out without prior communication to the National Team’s medical staff and that the details were only informed at 22:40 that same day through a medical report recommending rest for seven to ten days.
In light of this situation, the Federation decided to temporarily release the player to prioritize his health. “We trust that he can recover favorably and wish him a prompt and complete recovery,” the statement concluded.
In his place, coach Luis de la Fuente called up Jorge de Frutos from Rayo Vallecano to fill Lamine’s position. The decision had a strong impact in Spain, where the young 18-year-old winger is considered one of the greatest promises—and present—of European football and a key piece of La Roja’s project for the 2026 World Cup.
