Hull FC’s Ed Chamberlain will spend the 2026 season on loan at Super League newcomers Bradford Bulls. The 29-year-old, who first appeared for Hull on loan in 2024 before signing permanently from Leigh Leopards, still has two seasons to run on his Black and Whites deal, with John Cartwright and co. benefiting from a competitive-looking backline ahead of next year.
The club signed former Catalans Dragons back Arthur Romano back in September, with the Frenchman locked in a battle with Davy Litten and Zak Hardaker for Hull’s two centre spots. Elsewhere, Ryan Westerman will be backed should the opportunities arise this year, with the club keen not to put too many roadblocks in front of their young players. Tom Briscoe is another option.
That has brought the club to seek a loan move for Chamberlain, who was in and out of the side last season due to niggly injuries, namely head knocks and a hamstring blow that ended his season. He made 20 appearances, adding to the eight he made on loan the previous year, scoring the one try in the win at Wakefield back in March.
Speaking on his move to Bradford, Chamberlain, who has been training with the Bulls squad for the last two days, said: “It’s been good; everyone has been really welcoming.
“I know a lot of the lads from previous clubs. A new challenge gives you a chance to prove yourself and show what you want to be as a player. I don’t know what it will be for me but whatever position I end up playing in, I’ll do my best each and every week.
“I just want to make sure I am playing consistently in whatever position I get put in I’ll do my best. Hopefully I’m in the squad for the full year and whatever goals we set as a club that’s what we’ll stick to, I just want to be consistent week on week.”
Seeking some continuity in his appearances, Chamberlain is the second Hull player to head out on a season-long loan for 2026, with Denive Balmforth, as exclusively reported by Hull Live earlier this month, heading to York Knights.
Both moves open up some salary cap space for Hull, with a unique rule allowing some dispensation for players moving to Super League’s three promoted clubs, in turn freeing up more space for the club to potentially recruit a higher-earning player.
Hull Live understands Hull are open to further recruitment, with the back row position one area of interest. Hull currently have Jed Cartwright and Joe Batchelor as frontrunners for the role, although Connor Bailey is fancied to make an impression as one of several new signings. Young Will Kirby is also an option.
