Police have issued a statement following the horrific death of a woman fatally stabbed as she waited at a Birmingham city centre bus stop.

Katie Fox was named as the victim of what police described as an ‘unprovoked’ knife attack in Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm on Friday, November 7.

The 34-year-old suffered a serious neck injury and was taken to hospital but later died.

Shoppers in the city centre on Saturday, the day after the knife incident, and before Ms Fox’s death had been confirmed, said the incident was ‘really, really disturbing’.

In response, a spokesman for the force said: “We know that, after the awful events of the weekend which saw a woman tragically lose her life after being stabbed in the city centre, people are understandably worried.

“Our thoughts remain with her family and they are being supported by our officers.

“A man has now been charged and remanded in custody.

“We’ve increased our high-visibility patrols, and so people living in, working in or visiting the city centre should expect to see more officers.”
