Police are investigating a sexual assault on a sleeping woman which occurred on a train.

On October 23, a woman on board a train between Edinburgh and Wolverhampton woke up and found a man was sexually assaulting her. The man disembarked at Wolverhampton station.

British Transport Police (BTP) released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to as part of the investigation. Detectives believe the man in the image may have information that could help.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “At around 9am on Thursday, October 23, a woman travelling on the service woke up to a man sexually assaulting her.

“He then got off the train at Wolverhampton station.”

Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP, either by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 221 of October 23 2025.
