A statement from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service read: “At 12.27am on Monday, November 10, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) crews from Swansea Central and Morriston fire stations were called to an incident at Penlan in Swansea.

“Crews responded to a fire involving one tumble dryer that was well alight in an outbuilding.

“Crews utilised one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and one thermal imaging camera and one positive pressure ventilation fan to monitor the scene and to clear smoke.

“After extinguishing the fire, crews visited neighbouring properties to distribute home fire safety guidance and information.

“Crews left the scene at 1.34am.”

The fire service has used the incident as a reminder of tumble dryer and white goods safety.

A statement added: “Never leave appliances unattended – don’t turn your tumble dryer on before you leave the house or go to bed.

“Tumble dryers contain powerful motors with fast-moving parts that get very hot.

“Don’t overload your tumble dryer or put in items that have been used to soak up flammable liquids including cooking oil.

“Don’t ignore warning signs – if you can smell burning or have clothes that feel hotter at the end of the cycle have your appliance checked by a professional.”
